Several people in Philadelphia’s Fairmount neighborhood woke up Monday morning to find their cars missing all four wheels as police investigate whether the thefts are connected.
NBC10 found multiple Hondas targeted across the neighborhood. One vehicle was found on plastic crates at 25th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Another Honda was left on crates at 18th Street and Brandywine Street. An NBC10 producer also photographed a third Honda with its wheels stolen several blocks away at 18th Street and Francis Street.
On the same block at 18th and Francis, two other cars were not missing wheels but had their front, side and rear windows broken.
One of the victims, Elias Sulpizio, said he came outside Monday morning to find his nearly new Honda sitting on plastic crates with a broken window.
“It just sucks to happen during a Monday. Not a great start to the week,” Sulpizio said.
Sulpizio said the thieves only took a phone charger from inside the vehicle.
“I was talking with the cops today, it seems like it’s routine for them. He’s like yeah they target Hondas. Brand new Honda. Brand new wheels. It’s probably what they were looking for,” Sulpizio said.
Sulpizio said he had purchased the car just two weeks ago.
“Car was brand new. A thousand miles on it. I had to be here for a few years decided to trade it in and get something new. But might be regretting that,” he said.
NBC10 reached out to Philadelphia police about the thefts and is waiting to hear back about whether the incidents are connected.
