Philly Police Dept. to roll out different-colored officer shirts on Wednesday

Дата публикации: 30-09-2025 16:46:09

The Philadelphia Police Department will begin rolling out new uniform shirts for officers on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025, which will differ from the lighter, or “powder blue,” uniforms that have been worn since the 1970s, officials said.
According to the department, some officers will begin wearing midnight-blue uniform shirts, with the new shirts being rolled out in phases.
The change is being made to align with the “traditional” look, with the midnight blue uniforms being worn for more than a century before the switch to powder blue, according to the department.
The new shirts will also match the midnight blue load-bearing ballistic vests, the department said.
“The new design reinforces professionalism, authority, and familiarity; qualities that the public expects from its officers,” the department said in a press release.
Officers who have not yet been issued their new uniforms will continue wearing the powder blue uniforms until they receive the new shirts.
