Rosatom’s ZiO-Podolsk machine-building plant in the Moscow Region has finished manufacturing the second reactor unit RITM-200 for the multipurpose nuclear-powered icebreaker Leningrad that is currently under construction, Chief Executive Officer of Russia’s state corporation Alexey Likhachev said.

"Rosatom’s machine-building plant in the Moscow Region ZiO-Podolsk has completed the manufacture of the second reactor unit RITM-200 for the universal nuclear-powered icebreaker Leningrad currently under construction. Therefore, we have finished manufacturing the entire set of equipment for the reactor compartment of this future conqueror of the Arctic," he was quoted as saying by the nuclear industry’s media center.

RITM-200 reactor units will fulfill a strategic mission within the next 40 years, breaking through multi-meter-thick ice as part of the crew of the world’s most powerful icebreaker, ensuring the uninterrupted escort of vessels along the Northern Sea Route, and forming a reliable transport backbone for this vital Russian logistics artery, the chief executive noted.
