Boy George recently revealed he's using AI to re-record his old hits. He's also using it to create new songs in support of genocidal regimes.

"We Will Dance Again," the reggae song Boy George posted to his social media accounts Sunday, is ostensibly a response to the tragic Oct. 7 massacre, in which Hamas militants killed hundreds of Israelis at Nova music festival. It shares a title with Israeli filmmaker Yariv Mozer's documentary about the attack. But the song is not merely about rebounding from an act of terrorism.

Boy George begins "We Will Dance Again" by denying that Israel's military action against Palestinians in Gaza is genocidal, despite multiple United Nations inquiries characterizing the campaign as genocide. "You say genocide, I say war/ When you're attacked, that's what the army's for." He later decries the artists who've spoken out against Israel: "Musicians holding flags, mouthing like sheep/ Propaganda fueled by the internet feels so weak." As of now, the song is only posted to his socials and is not available to stream on DSPs.

In a post on Threads today, Boy George explains that he wrote "We Will Dance Again" with the help of AI:

I prefer an imperfect democracy. It's what I'm used to but my support is more for my actual friends who I hold close and know are good and decent. I'm afraid we all struggle to live peacefully with each other. Until we do, we are doomed. I accept that many people disagree with my point of view but that is what is great about democracy. As imperfect as it is! The song was created using AI. I call it 'AI for good'. Truthfully, I would struggle to write this with a human!

As The Guardian points out, Boy George's band Culture Club released a single called "The War Song" in 1984, in which he came out against war as a general concept: "War is stupid and people are stupid." The paper also points out an interview with The Telegraph in which Boy George frames his support for Israel as support for his Jewish friends: "Over the years it’s been a really personal thing. It doesn’t mean that I don’t have compassion for Palestinians, it doesn’t mean that I agree with what’s going on in Israel, but I am always going to defend the people that I love. I have a lot of Jewish friends and there would never be a situation where I’d turn my back on them."
