Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to reports of a woman, allegedly armed with firearm, attempting to enter a private residence in Chipewyan Prairie First Nation, about a 90-minute drive south of Fort McMurray, on Wednesday night.

Police received a 911 call from neightbours at 8:41 p.m. on July 29, and attended the scene on Larocque Avenue, in an area commonly known to residents as Janvier a short time later.

Police said the suspect, who was allegedly carrying a shotgun and ammunition, was found at a nearby residence and arrested without incident. The weapons allegedly involved were seized.

Wood Buffalo RCMP told Postmedia no one was in the home at the time of the alleged incident and no injuries or damage were reported.

The suspect, who cannot be named and who police allege is known to the residents of the property involved, was identified as a 39-year-old woman of Chipewyan Prairie First Nation.

She is facing charges including two counts unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts careless use of a firearm, and one count of possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose.

While the suspect remains in custody until judicial interim release hearing, Wood Buffalo RCMP said the area is contained as police remain on scene to continue their investigation.

Police said there is no concern to public safety at this time.
