If a poll worker says you can’t vote because of your shirt:

• Calmly explain that your shirt is nonpartisan and does not advocate for or against any candidate or
  political party
• Ask to speak to the person in charge of the polling place.
• If they still refuse to let you vote, ask for a provisional ballot.
• Call 1-866-OUR-VOTE right away to report what happened.Mention that
  you are an American Indian or Alaska Native voter to be connected to a NARF attorney.

In past elections, some Native voters were told they couldn’t vote while wearing “Native Vote”
shirts. That’s not correct. These shirts are generally permitted in polling places because they are
nonpartisan, although election rules vary by state.

• Clothing, buttons, hats, or signs that name or show support for a specific candidate
  or political party.
• Messages that say “Vote for…” or “Re-elect…” or that take sides in an election.
• Handing out flyers or talking to voters in or near the polling place about who to
  vote for.

• Shirts, pins, or stickers that say “Native Vote,” “Vote,” or other nonpartisan
  messages.
• Tribal logos, artwork, or slogans that encourage civic participation without naming
  candidates or parties.
• Wearing cultural or traditional clothing, regalia, or jewelry.
