Huntsville’s music industry has ballooned since 2018, supporting over 3,000 jobs and driving $278.2 million into its local economy, per a new audit.

Huntsville, Alabama, has enjoyed a thriving music industry that’s grown exponentially over the last eight years into a $278.2 million economic driver, according to the 2026 Huntsville Music Audit. Conducted by global music consultancy Sound Diplomacy, the audit found the city’s music sector now supports around 3,047 jobs—representing 2.8% of all employment in Huntsville.

According to city leadership, the audit’s finding reflect years of strategic investment in music venues, public policy, and the Huntsville Music Office, established following the city’s first music audit in 2018.

“This audit shows what can happen when a city believes in the power of its creative community,” said Mayor Tommy Battle. “When we began this journey, Huntsville’s music strategy was just an idea, an ambitious one. Today, thanks to years of investment and collaboration, we’re looking at a fully developed industry that’s driving jobs, culture, and tourism. It’s incredibly rewarding to see that vision become reality.”

In eight years, Huntsville’s music economy has more than doubled, driven by live music. The city is now home to 132 music venues across bars, nightclubs, performing arts venues, festivals, and other performance spaces. Entertainment destinations like the Orion Amphitheater and the Propst Arena at the renovated Von Braun Center have established Huntsville as a concert destination in the region, attracting thousands of visitors and generating millions of dollars for the local economy.

“As someone who made Huntsville home and immediately saw how special this community is, I can tell you: this audit reflects what we feel every day—that Huntsville is becoming one of the best places in America to live, create, perform, and grow,” said Huntsville Music Officer Matt Mandrella. “This is just the beginning.”

The audit also features recommendations for continued growth and outlines strategies intended to help the city further develop its music industry through partnerships, policy initiatives, and investments.

“The momentum is real, and we’re committed to building a music ecosystem that is sustainable, inclusive, and uniquely Huntsville,” Mandrella added.
