A crime drama featuring a Grey's Anatomy alum that was branded 'absolutely phenomenal' has been axed - despite rave reviews.

Hotel Costiera premiered all six episodes of season one on Prime Video earlier this year.

The show stars Jesse Williams as Daniel De Luca, a former Marine now working at a hotel in Italy, who is tasked to find the owner's missing daughter.

Meanwhile, the cast also included Jordan Alexandra, Maria Chiara Giannetta, Antonio Gerardi, Sam Haygarth and Tommaso Ragno. 

Despite a strong reception from fans, the action drama has now officially been cancelled.

Production company Fremantle, who co-produced the show, are now reportedly shopping Hotel Costiera to other partners to co-finance another season.

One viewer previously wrote: 'I need season 2 like this second please and thank you!

Lead actor Jesse, 44, is best known for playing Dr. Jackson Avery on Grey's Anatomy.

He debuted on the medical drama in 2009, for season six and remained a regular until season 17. 

Jesse has occasionally reprised his role as Jackson for guest appearances - much to fans' delight.

Elsewhere, fans were devastated when another popular detective series with a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score was axed.

Poker Face first hit screens on Peacock in 2023 and has aired on Sky Max for UK audiences.

Natasha Lyonne played Charlie Cale, who possesses an uncanny ability to tell when someone is lying to her.

Two seasons have aired to date - but Deadline revealed Peacock wouldn't be renewing the show for a third outing.

In a further blow, it was revealed Natasha, 46, had exited the series' leading role of Charlie.

Viewers were left gutted about the show's fate, with one writing on X: 'Poker Face was cancelled??? It was a great show.'

Another remarked: 'I don’t understand Poker Face getting cancelled. I really don’t.

'What another Peacock show do you guys know about coz I don’t know a single other show.'

A third commented: 'Actually crying because both Poker Face and English Teacher got cancelled literally two fantastic ORIGINAL shows in a sea of reboots just swept under the rug.'

Meanwhile, creator Rian Johnson revealed plans to try and continue Poker Face - in a different iteration.

It would see Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage - aka Tyrion Lannister - take over the role of Charlie Cale.

Speaking to Deadline, Rian, 51, affirmed his desire to work with Peter, 56. and continue Poker Face.

He said: 'Look, it’s very early days. We’re gonna see if we can take it out and get it going.

'But I love Peter, I’ve always wanted to work with him. And I would be so excited if we can get this version of it up and going. 

'It’s a wild swing, and I just feel like it could be so much fun, going forward with the show.'
