Drew Barrymore put on yet another dramatic performance on her talk show today when she pleaded for help with her 'triggering' daughter, while causally name-dropping best friend Cameron Diaz - just days after she left viewers cringing at her bizarre interview with Kamala Harris.

The former child star, 42, was joined by Grey's Anatomy actress Jessica Capshaw, 47, on her self-titled ABC show, and theatrically collapsed on the couch as she begged her guest for parenting advice.

Drew – who is mom to daughters, Olive, 11, and Frankie, 10, whom she shares with her ex-husband Will Kopelman, 45 – was desperate to know how to curb her eldest child's obsession with wanting to be older.

'My daughter, who's about to turn 12 really wants to be 16… going on 25,' she said.

'But so did we,' Jessica attempted to reason. 'So did we.'

Drew admitted she did before letting out a loud sigh and flailing herself onto the sofa while crying out: 'It's so triggering!'

'We can't blame them,' said Jessica, who shares children Luke, 16, Eve, 13, Poppy, 11, and Josephine, seven, with her entrepreneur husband Christopher Gavigan, 50.

'What do I do?' Drew asked.

Turning her attention to her 13-year-old, Jessica said: 'The adolescent thing can be really challenging, and at the same time, it [can be] really as easy as you make it.

'I just try very hard to be like, listen. These are the fences. They're not walls, but there's something there.

'And with phones, that was the first thing. We waited until she was 13, and there was a contract. And there was, what do I expect from you? What do you expect from me? What does this phone mean?'

Later in their conversation, Drew revealed she had a discussion with her best friend Cameron, 51, concerning her fears about the way youngsters like to dress.

She said: 'Not to drop a name, but one of my best friends happens to be Cameron Diaz, and I was like, "The way these girls dress today!"

'And she goes, "Oh, come on. You remember the '70s with bikini tops and dolphin shorts". And I was like, "yeah, but it felt different". And she was like, "Come on! We all wore tube tops and tiny shorts."'

Drew is no stranger to discussing her children on her self-titled show and last month recalled the time her daughter Olive surprised her by trying on her wedding dress from her marriage to her ex-husband Will.

'The other night I came home, and I was told that Olive had a surprise for me,' the actress explained. 'And so I came in the room and she was standing there in my wedding dress.'

Her cohosts - including Ross Matthews - let out a shocked gasp upon listening to the story, along with some of the live audience.

Drew continued: 'And I looked at her and I was like, "Oh my God, you look so beautiful!"'

'I go, "You know, that's actually technically the second time you wore that dress because you were six months in my belly when I wore it. And I'm saving it for you and your sister."'

Former couple Drew and Will tied the knot in 2012, just one year after they started dating.

Their divorce was finalized in 2016.

Earlier this week, Drew sent the internet into a tailspin following a bizarre interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.

During one particularly cringeworthy segment, Drew slid close to Kamala on the couch, held her hands, and pleaded with the politician to become a 'mother' to the US.

She said: 'But in our country, we need you to be Momala of the country.'

At another point in the interview, Kamala defended her laugh, and implied that those who make fun of it are exhibiting a form of sexism.

'You were asking me earlier about what it means to be like, the first woman [vice president],' she told Drew.

'And you know, it's funny because people still gotta get used to this, right?'

Kamala then claimed that an example of lingering misogyny with the public adjusting to having a woman vice president is when people bring increased attention to her laugh or mannerisms.

'I mean, my staff for example, sometimes they'll show me little things that just amuse me. Like, apparently some people love to talk about the way I laugh,' she said.

Drew, crowding the vice president on the couch, said enthusiastically: 'Oh, yes. OK. I love your laugh.' 

'I have my mother's laugh,' Kamala continued. 

'And I grew up around a bunch of women, in particular, who laughed from the belly. They laughed, they would sit around the kitchen and drinking their coffee, telling big stories with big laughs.'

'You know, I'm never gonna be like,' Kamala then said before faking a dainty chuckle into her hand.
