'That's when we knew something was wrong,' she said.
The issue became even more apparent when Slatten traveled to New York City for a 90 Day Fiancé holiday party, where her speech continued to slow.
An interview she did also sparked health concerns from fans.
Singh initially suspected his wife was sleep-deprived but a commenter raised the possibility of ALS, prompting him to research the disease.
'And then I find out that these symptoms she was having - this is what it looks like,' Singh said.
Slatten's father had also died of ALS, a fact that dawned on them after the possibility of the disease came up.
Slatten returned to India, where she lives with her husband, and eventually learned she indeed had ALS after speaking with multiple doctors.
The couple cried and held each other when they learned she had the disease, Slatten said.
She is now seeking treatments for the incurable illness, and doctors have told the couple that the progression of Slatten's illness is 'slow', according to Singh.

The diagnosis was confirmed after multiple doctor's visits
'I don't want to be treated any different,' she said. 'Let's just live our life as we have been while we can.'
The ordeal has also brought the couple even closer together: 'Honestly, I never felt this much love, or I can love anyone this much,' Sumit told the publication.
'I used to … live for myself. But from [the] last so many years, I feel like doing [things] for someone who you love gives you happiness, I think that's what love is. And that's why we do things for each other, and that's what make each other happy.'
'And we're happy that we're together,' Slatten said.
The devastating announcement comes just days after actor Russell Andrews also revealed he had been diagnosed with ALS.
Actor Eric Dane also died earlier this year from the disorder at age 53.
Slatten and Singh were introduced to fans on the first season of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way v in 2019, which flipped the script on the original show, with Americans traveling to another country for a 90-day engagement.

The pair had been dating since 2013, but due to visa restrictions, she could only stay in India for six months at a time before heading back to America until they wed.
They had a Hindu-style wedding, which Singh's astrologer finally approved of at the last minute.
'We don’t know what our future holds,' Slatten said at the time. 'The only thing we know is that we’re happy together and we’re living our life the way that we want to.'
In 2023, Slatten shared a series of photos on Instagram from her life in India.
The star, who has a 30-year age gap with her husband, captioned the post, 'We have each other and we’re happy together who cares what anyone thinks.'
She also featured an audio clip that said, 'If something is making you happy, and you're comfortable with it, and it's working, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. The truth of the matter is, you can't please everybody.'
They will be returning to small screens in 90 Day: The Last Resort on June 1.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurogenerative disorder which impacts the nerve cells in the spinal cord and the brain, according to the Mayo Clinic. It gets progressively worse and causes significant muscle control loss in people who have it.
TreatmentThere is no cure for ALS and the disease is fatal, but it progresses at different speeds in patients.
SymptomsThe first signs of ALS are twitching of the muscles, weaknesses of the limbs and problems with swallowing and speaking. Progressively, it deteriorates muscle control and impacts an individual's ability to breathe, move, speak and eat.
ALS symptoms correspond with where nerve cells deteriorate in each person, and could lead to issues walking, tripping, and weakness of the knees, ankles and hands.
It can also lead to problems with muscle cramps and twitching in areas including one's tongue, arms and shoulders. People with ALS have experienced untimely spells of laughter, tears and yawns, as well as changes to one's thinking process or behavior, according to the clinic.
Risk factorsAmong the risk factors researchers have established for ALS include genetics, as about 10 percent of people diagnosed with it were passed down a gene from a relative, which is called hereditary ALS, according to the clinic. Kids of people who have hereditary ALS have a 50 percent chance of having the gene.
Age is also a factor as the risk of getting the disease trends up toward the age of 75, with the most common range of people who have it between 60 and 85. In terms of gender, men are diagnosed with a higher rate of ALS prior to the age of 65, according to the clinic.
Other factors that have been linked to ALS include smoking and exposure to toxic substances. The clinic reported that military personnel have been diagnosed with ALS at a higher rate.
CausesThere is no known cause of ALS, according to the Mayo Clinic, and heredity plays a factor in a small number of cases.
