IIT-Hyderabad, Crimson Energy launch nuclear technology orientation programme

The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H), in collaboration with Pune-based technology firm Crimson Energy Experts Pvt. Ltd. (CEEPL), on Monday launched a three-month, fully residential programme aimed at preparing engineers and industry professionals for the country’s expanding civil nuclear energy sector.

Anugyan-Nuclear Technology Orientation Programme (NTOP), touted as India’s first industry-academia initiative dedicated to equipping engineers for the nuclear sector, seeks to bridge the gap between academic learning and industrial practice.

The intensive programme will combine IIT-H’s academic expertise with the experience of nuclear professionals from CEEPL. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a joint certification from IIT-H and CEEPL.

The programme is open to engineering graduates, working professionals, public sector undertaking (PSU) executives, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors, and equipment manufacturers. According to the official website, the course fee is ₹3.5 lakh, excluding accommodation charges.

IIT-H director B.S. Murty said the initiative reflects the institute’s commitment to developing future-ready talent aligned with India’s clean energy and energy security goals.

Commodore R.D. Mane (retired), president of the Nuclear Division at CEEPL, said the programme would equip engineers with the specialised skills required for next-generation nuclear projects, including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and floating nuclear power plants.

The tailor-made course comes at a time when India is targeting an increase in its nuclear power generation capacity from about 8.8 GWe to 100 GWe by 2047 while expanding private participation in the civil nuclear sector. The curriculum comprises 24 modules covering reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, radiation shielding, Small Modular Reactors, nuclear safety, quality assurance, engineering design, AERB regulatory compliance, and simulator-based training.

The inaugural batch, comprising 25 participants, commenced on August 3.
