This research stems from fieldwork on plantations for different purposes, both timber and non-timber, which have always been established in different locations due to the specific ecological and climatic conditions required by each species for its optimal development. However, in the last three decades (between 1990 and 2020), a total of 178 million hectares of forest have been lost. Although this loss has decreased in the last 10 years globally, it remains high and worrisome in areas with valuable forests such as tropical Africa and Oceania. Therefore, the objective was to determine the elements of the economic investment for the establishment of 50 hectares of commercial timber plantation of the species cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa) and melina (Gmelina arborea) and 4.13 hectares of non-timber species (Chamaedorea ernesti augusti, Chamaedorea elegans, and Asparagus retrofractus), in order to integrate the cost, on the La Venta property, Municipality of Palenque, State of Chiapas. In Chiapas, a case study with a mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. An interview guide was used as the data collection instrument. Analysis of the results revealed that the total economic investment required for establishing 50 hectares of commercial timber plantation with cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa) and melina (Gmelina arborea) species, as well as 4.13 hectares designated for non-timber forest species (Chamaedorea ernesti-augusti, Chamaedorea elegans, and Asparagus retrofractus), amounts to $21,755,236.99 (twenty-one million seven hundred fifty-five thousand two hundred thirty-six pesos 99/100 M.N.)
