Miami, FL - Miami FC rallied from a first-half deficit and appeared on course for all three points before a late equalizer forced a 2-2 draw against Detroit City FC on Saturday night at South Dade Kia Field at Pitbull Stadium.

Facing one of the Eastern Conference's top playoff contenders, Miami produced another spirited performance, controlling much of the second half after falling behind and creating enough chances to complete an impressive comeback.

The hosts started brightly, generating early attacking opportunities through Gerald Díaz and Matías Romero while limiting Detroit's chances. Eloy Room was called into action midway through the opening half, making a pair of key saves to deny Darren Smith and Abdoulaye Diop and keep the match scoreless.

Miami nearly opened the scoring in the 40th minute when Daltyn Knutson powered a header off the crossbar following a corner kick. However, despite creating several dangerous moments, Detroit capitalized on a quick counterattack in the 33rd minute as Maxi Rodriguez found the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Miami responded immediately after the break.

Just nine minutes into the second half, Rodrigo da Costa delivered a dangerous ball into the penalty area where Jürgen Locadia was perfectly positioned to finish from close range, leveling the match at 1-1. The goal shifted the momentum entirely in Miami's favor as the hosts controlled possession and continued pressing for another breakthrough.

That pressure paid off in the 64th minute. Alessandro Milesi surged forward down the left side before finding Gerald Díaz inside the box, and the Puerto Rican international calmly fired home to complete the comeback and give Miami a deserved 2-1 advantage.

Miami continued to push for a third goal while remaining organized defensively, but Detroit found a late equalizer in the 89th minute when Tommy Silva finished from close range to make it 2-2.

The drama continued deep into stoppage time as Detroit was awarded a penalty with an opportunity to steal all three points. Room delivered one final decisive moment, diving low to his left to deny Chisom Egbuchulam from the spot and preserve the draw for Miami in front of the home supporters.

Despite the result, Miami once again demonstrated its resilience and attacking quality against one of the Eastern Conference's strongest sides, continuing to build momentum heading into the next stretch of the season.

Miami FC returns to South Dade Kia Field at Pitbull Stadium on Saturday, August 8, for another Eastern Conference matchup against Las Vegas Lights FC. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
