Joe Brolly has reportedly stepped down from his role as Knockmore Ladies football manager, leaving the side without leadership just days before the Championship begins.

Brolly assumed the managerial position at the North Mayo club in February.

An All-Ireland champion during his playing days with Derry, Brolly guided Knockmore through their league campaign, which concluded with a six-point defeat to Westport in the final in May.

The Mayo News reports that Brolly has now departed Knockmore, leaving the squad managerless with just ten days remaining until their Championship opener against Claremorris on 16 August.

He had previously been associated with the Knockmore men's team, serving as part of the backroom staff in 2025, a campaign that concluded with a semi-final defeat to Ballina.

Brolly is married to Knockmore native Laurita Blewitt and, despite kong-standing criticism of the Mayo team, he was in Croke Park to witness their recent All-Ireland triumph.

The Dungiven man called Mayo's All-Ireland victory one of the most emotional days in GAA history, describing it as a profound moment of "liberation".

Brolly was part of the 1993 Derry team which won the All-Ireland SFC title, before becoming something of a household name as part of RTE's GAA punditry team.
