SACRAMENTO, CA, June 15, 2026 — The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) today announced a historic milestone: the high school graduating Class of 2026 has officially surpassed a 70% completion rate for financial aid applications. This achievement marks a new record for applications completed before the June 30^th Race to Submit deadline, with more than 70 percent of California’s high school seniors successfully completing either the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA).

“Class of 2026, we are so proud of you for proving what is possible, and for believing in yourselves and the power of higher education,” said Dr. Daisy Gonzales, Executive Director of the CSAC. “High School Seniors, you made history this year. This milestone is a testament to the hard work of our students, families, educators, and community partners across the state.  And for any high school seniors who are still not sure about enrolling, our community college financial aid deadline is September 2, 2026 for enrollment in Fall 2026.”

Stepping Stone to the 2030 Goal

This record-breaking year brings California significantly closer to the strategic targets outlined in CSAC’s Student Success Blueprint. The ambitious blueprint sets a North Star goal: ensuring that at least 80 percent of all graduating high school seniors apply for financial aid by the year 2030. Today’s announcement demonstrates powerful, measurable momentum toward that objective, after two years of implementation.

We are now on a path to hit our 2030 goal, and we must continue to work together to ensure that higher education becomes a reality for thousands of more students across California. They are actively pursuing diverse pathways, including career and technical education programs that lead to meaningful careers.”

There is Still Time to Apply

While the 70% completion rate marks a major statewide accomplishment, CSAC reminds students and families that the window for securing financial aid is not closed yet. Seniors planning to attend a California Community College still have until September 2 to complete their FAFSA or CADAA. Any graduating senior who has not yet applied is strongly encouraged to submit their application as soon as possible to secure available funding for their higher education journey.

“While we are so proud of all the students who completed a financial aid application, we want students who have not submitted an application yet to know that there is still time, the door is still open, and support is available to help navigate the process,” said Matthew Elder, Director for the Riverside Cal-SOAP. “If you are planning to attend a community college this fall, you still have until September 2 to get your FAFSA or CADAA completed! Financial aid can help cover costs beyond tuition and can help with basic needs, such as housing, food, and transportation costs. Higher education is within your reach.”
