Five men have been charged with criminal sexual conduct in connection with the alleged sexual exploitation of a 14-year-old girl who went missing for two days in June.

The girl was found two days later, but her disappearance led to a month-long investigation and the arrests of five men, the Washington County sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post Tuesday night.

Authorities gave the following details: Two days after the girl went missing on June 13, detectives with the Washington County sheriff’s office found her in Minneapolis. While looking into her disappearance as a human trafficking investigation, detectives identified the five men through victim interviews, digital forensic examinations, search warrants, social media records and investigative work, the post said.

While the men are not connected to each other, investigators believe they all met the girl through online platforms and then allegedly communicated with and engaged in criminal sexual conduct with her, authorities said.

The following men were arrested and charged, the post said: Keaton Fisher Moen, 29, of St. Louis Park; Kyle Scott Schneider, 37, of Andover; Jesse Jalon Suiter, 20, of Zimmerman; Sona Wandimu Wakuma, 26, of New Brighton, and Mitchell David Wetzel, 28, of White Bear Lake.

“Every child deserves to be safe from those who would try to take advantage of them. Our detectives worked tirelessly to find the truth, protect the victim, and hold those responsible accountable. This case is a reminder to parents and caregivers to stay involved, talk with your kids, and know what’s happening in their online world,” Sheriff Dan Starry said in the post.

Authorities warned that people “increasingly use social media applications, messaging platforms, and online communities to identify and communicate with children.”

Anyone with information regarding child exploitation or suspected human trafficking is encouraged to contact the Washington County sheriff’s office at 651-430-7825.
