On Friday 28 March 2025, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit Myanmar.

Whilst it’s likely the actual numbers are far higher, we know at least 3,700 people were tragically killed and at least 5,000 injured.

The damage and destruction includes more than 120,000 homes, as well as critical infrastructure, schools, bridges, monasteries and pagodas, which are sacred places of worship.

Thousands of people have been displaced and communities are suffering extreme heat without electricity to power fans.

One month after the disaster, millions still need urgent help.

Local Relief International teams are working around the clock, and have provided almost 40,000 people with emergency support across South Shan, one of the regions worst affected.

This includes mobile medical care, psychosocial support, screening for malnutrition, clean water and sanitation services.

Over coming weeks, we are expanding our outreach to cover essential gaps in health, water, sanitation and shelter in three of Myanmar’s post affected regions.
