This is a 3–6 month delay caused primarily by Blue Origin’s New Glenn launchpad explosion during a static-fire/hot-fire test on May 28, 2026 (following the earlier April 19 upper-stage failure on the NG-3 mission that lost BlueBird 7).
On July 6, 2026, Satellite analyst Tim Farrar (@TMFAssociates) said, “The cult finally admitting the inevitability of $ASTS commercial service being delayed into 2028, and this doesn’t even include the multiple months needed for orbit raising, unfurling & testing after each launch.
In February, 2026, Nextbigfuture indicated that AST Space Mobile would not be able to get to a minimum useful 45 satellite direct to cellphone constellation in 2026 without the Blue Origin launches. Blue Origin got grounded after there was an explosion that damaged their launch pad.
