INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — For the second time since May, a person has been fatally shot at a motel on the city’s east side, Indianapolis police said Monday night.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was called shortly before 7:45 p.m. Monday to a report of an incomplete 911 call at Budget 8 Inn, 6850 E. 21st St.

Officers arrived to find a person with a gunshot wound who died at the scene. Coroners identified him later as Sheldon Roberts, 28.

IMPD says there was an altercation between “two or more” individuals on a balcony located at the rear of the building.

The suspects fled the scene. Police say two people were detained at the scene, but were later released.

On May 14, Joshua Thompson, 30, was taken from the motel in critical condition after a shooting reported just before 6:30 p.m. He later died of his injuries.

The motel southwest of the interchange of I-70 and Shadeland Avenue has been the scene of multiple shootings in recent years, based on previous reporting.
