A woman has divided opinion on social media after a video of her sharing her food with a bird while out for a meal went viral. 

TikTok user @777laurenz originally shared the clip of an American woman being  surprised by an unexpected guest on her plate, which was then posted by the Twitter account @Bornakang.

The woman looked shocked and delighted as a delicate little bird perched on her bowl of spaghetti. 

Covering her mouth with her hand, her eyes widened as she struggled to contain her stunned laughter while the bird tucked in, telling her friend who was filming: 'I don't even blame it.'

'It's probably starving,' she added, before the bird flew off and the two collapsed into laughter. 

She repeated: 'I don't even blame it.' 

However, it wasn't the cheeky bird flying in for a quick snack that left people shocked, but the fact the diner carried on eating after the bird had touched her food.

After being shared on Twitter the clip quickly racked up 30.1 million views, 6,000 comments and more than 100,000 likes. 

Many users were in full support of the way the woman had dealt with the situation and compassionately let the little bird have something to eat, but others were disgusted by the potential health hazard. 

One horrified social media user wrote: 'That's how she becomes patient zero, goes home to kiss her boyfriend, her boyfriend kisses his sneaky link over the weekend - the sneaky link goes home to kiss her husband, the next day. The whole world gets sick. This is exactly how a pandemic starts.'

'This is how the next global pandemic starts, that bird injected her meal with bird flu. Two months from now we'll all be locked down once again,' another added. 

And a third person penned: 'I know for a fact that bird pecked on a few old pieces of gum in the street before her plate!' 

But not everyone was horrified with some joking the bird from the Twitter logo was now out of work since the platform changed to X and needed food.

'The fact she still ate it proves to me that she is a keeper,' applauded one person. 

While another user agreed, adding: 'She just like me, cause Imma finish my plate.'

And someone else wrote: 'Awww he's probably hungry, sweet reaction.'
