Now I know that some are gonna think I'm an idiot. And yes, I'll admit that killing Playboy is the "right" choice, but hear me out...
Niko has been a soldier since his youth. I think one of the biggest things about Niko, that the fanbase doesn't delve too deeply into, is that he's still in the 'soldier' mentality. He talks in the first mission about how war is the old and bitter convincing the young and stupid into killing each other. Little does he realise that's practically what he's still doing in Liberty City. He's a man who's used to throwing away his morals because of what he's been asked to do.
Now take it on the surface level (Niko not knowing the results of each outcome), Niko can choose: 1) kill the old, out of control gangster with a constant chip on his shoulder for a massive cash reward OR 2) kill the up-and-coming, seemingly rich youthful gangster who wants to move legit. As it is, it reflects the Dimitri/Faustin quite a bit, and we all know that Niko seemed to go with what he was told to do because it seemed the most level-headed option at the time. It hurts Niko to kill Dwayne, and his feelings about it afterwards point out one thing: he feels like he truly can't break out of the cycle of doing bad things for bad people. Making the "wrong" choice seems to give the final two choices a lot more emotional weight to those decisions. Even giving more credence to Niko choosing the Revenge ending, since he now realises he truly does have the final say.
Just spitballing. I still kill Playboy every playthrough for that sweet, sweet Claude outfit and Dwayne's backup.
