This year’s Lollapalooza was undoubtedly many things to many people, but attendees seem to agree on one thing for sure: it was very wet in Chicago over the weekend. As a result of ongoing rain, the festival was hit with flooding issues. That led to several delays and shortened sets.
Updates about delays were common throughout the weekend. Lollapalooza’s official Facebook page warned festivalgoers on Saturday that “due to current and overnight heavy rains,” the doors would be delayed opening until 2 PM—but even then, things remained touch-and-go.
Less than three hours later, festival organizers released another statement announcing that they were “actively working on cleaning up areas of the grounds,” with a plan to reopen at 3 PM.“As of 2 PM, South Grant Park is still flooded, with crew working hard to pump the water out,” wrote attendee Colin Hinkle on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday. “If you are attending tonight, best of luck.”
Once things finally opened, organizers cautioned on social media: “Grant Park will be muddy, so come prepared. Wear waterproof shoes you don’t mind getting wet and muddy, [and] be patient as you make your way around the grounds.”
A few sets were shortened and moved around. Most sets scheduled from 12 PM to 3 PM were canceled altogether. K-pop group Cortis was moved to later in the afternoon, with their allotted performance time reduced to 40 minutes, down from 50.
Similarly, English group Wolf Alice was initially due to hit the stage at 3 PM. Not only was their set pushed back an hour, but their hour-long set was reduced to only 30 minutes. Saturday’s headliners included Olivia Dean and Jennie, with performances by The Neighbourhood, Geese, Sienna Spiro, Clipse, and Ethel Cain.
On Sunday, Lollapalooza’s final day, the weather finally cleared up. The festival started promptly at 11 AM, with headliners The Chainsmokers, Tate McRae, and The XX. Other acts included Adéla, Jade, Aespa, and Stella Lefty.
