George Clooney is set to make his Broadway debut at age 63.

The E.R. alum, 63, will play journalist Edward R. Murrow in the adaptation of his 2005 film Good Night, and Good Luck, which he also directed. 

In the film, David Strathairn played Murrow while Clooney portrayed the head of CBS, Fred Friendly.

'I am honored, after all these years, to be coming back to the stage and especially to Broadway, the art form and the venue that every actor aspires to,' the Out of Sight actor said in a statement, per People.

Clooney will adapt the screenplay with Tony-winner David Cromer. The film was written by Clooney and Grant Heslov. 

'Edward R. Murrow operated from a kind of moral clarity that feels vanishingly rare in today's media landscape,' Cromer said.

'There was an immediacy in those early live television broadcasts that today can only be effectively captured on stage, in front of a live audience,' he added.

The New York Times described Murrow as: 'the pioneering newscaster whose storied broadcast career in the mid-20th century made him a journalism icon.'

The play will be housed at a Shubert theater on the Great White Way that hasn't been announced yet. It is expected to start its run in 2025. 

The announcement comes after the Ocean's 11 actor celebrated his 63rd birthday in Italy. 

Clooney is shooting the Untitled Noah Baumbach film with Adam Sandler, 57. and fans gathered near the set of the film on his birthday to share good wishes. 

The Facts of Life actor replied to his fans in Italian saying, 'sono vecchio', which means 'I am old' in English. 

Plot details are still secret, but Deadline previously reported the movie was 'a funny and emotional coming-of-age film about adults.' 

He celebrated his birthday on Monday, May 6 shooting hoops between takes with his co-star Sandler. 

Sandler and The Boys in the Boat director have never worked together before three-time Oscar nominee Noah Baumbach's untitled film, which is called Jay Kelly - according to World of Reel.

'Noah Baumbach's got an excellent kind of Jerry Maguire-esque, for lack of a better analogy, but a really great life-affirming movie with two big movie stars that's starting to come together,' former Netflix Films chairman Scott Stuber told Collider on November 11.

'So that'll be exciting,' he added.
