A man who has spent years attempting novel ways to extend his life has revealed that he is battling an incurable health condition.

Mankind has been obsessed with gaining immortality for thousands of years, but even despite the incredible advances in science and medicine achieved over the last few centuries, our species still remains just as vulnerable to the aging process as our ancestors were millions of years ago.

This doesn't mean that some of the wealthiest among us aren't willing to try, however.

Enter Bryan Johnson - a 48-year-old millionaire businessman who has been obsessed for years with turning back the clock, improving his health and attempting to stave off age-related maladies.

His methods range from taking 100 pills in a single day to receiving blood plasma from his own son, but despite all this, it seems that mortality is intent on catching up to him.

Now, despite his best efforts, Johnson has revealed that he is suffering from an incurable condition called autoimmune gastritis (AIG), that can affect as many as 1 in 50 people.

"Been thinking things over and wonder if I've taken this whole longevity thing too far," he wrote.

"My stomach is eating itself."

Exactly how Johnson will tackle this condition remains unclear, but he will no doubt be investigating every possible way to improve his health and keep the disease from progressing.

While his longevity-chasing exploits have raised a few eyebrows, there's no denying that his general message of healthy living does have merit - especially in an age dominated by fast food, growing obesity and an over-reliance on fat-slimming jabs to keep the weight off.

There's something to be said for taking a proactive approach to one's own health and wellbeing.
