WASHINGTON, August 12. /TASS/. Iran is considering prolonging the armed conflict with the United States until the end of President Donald Trump's term in office, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi, adviser to the commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces), said on Wednesday.

"We have to attain deterrence so that the enemy never dares to attack us, so we can live with security," Naqdi said in an interview with US-based PBS television channel.

"One way is to prolong this war until we get to the next term of the presidency and cause attrition, so that if anyone else wants to attack Iran, they will know there is a cost," he added.

The US and Israel began a war with Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon.

However, in the early morning hours of July 8, the US resumed large-scale strikes against Iran, accusing it of violating the terms of the agreements reached on the Strait of Hormuz.
