Google Upgrades its Foldable to Keep it Top-End

Google has made a good number of improvements to its flagship foldable phone, while keeping the book-style design mostly the same. As expected, the price has ticked up by $100 to start at $1,899, although for the next two weeks, Google is offering a free Pixel Watch 5 (worth $399) or $350 Google Store credit. The new Pixel 11 Pro Fold is 10% lighter and ~1mm thinner than the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Google claims the phone is now three times more durable, thanks to a new glass fiber composite back cover and ceramic cover glass. As before, it has an IP68 dust and water rating, thanks in part to a unique gearless hinge. A new sign-to-text feature can translate both one-handed and two-handed American Sign Language via the inner front camera to text on the outer display. Google also claims "improved crease performance", displays that are 20% brighter (3,600 nits), and thinner bezels on the outer display. Wireless charging is now faster thanks to 25W Qi2.2. The phone is powered by the new Google Tensor G6 chip with 16 GB of RAM. The camera system has also been improved although the specs are the same. The camera's flash has been expanded into a multi-color indicator that Google calls HiLight. It can glow different colors for different incoming callers, and performs animations when talking with Gemini AI. Pre-orders start today, and the phone ships August 20th.
