The company invested in cellular radio spectrum for decades without building a network. When T-Mobile merged with Sprint, Dish took over the Boost brand and promised the FCC, as a condition of the merger approval, that they would establish Boost as a full fourth national network operator. Then last year, Dish gave up on that project. Dish's financial roadmap this year was tied to a planned sale of radio spectrum licenses to AT&T. An unexpected delay in that sale has forced the bankruptcy.

Boost Mobile went from interesting to forgettable the moment push-to-talk vanished. Now it’s acting like premium credit is required to breathe near a plan. US Mobile offering three services in one company, plus Starlink, makes the choice pretty obvious.
