BRUSSELS, August 12. /TASS/. NATO has begun reducing its military contingent in Kosovo thanks to "improvements to the security situation," Spokesperson Allison Hart said.

"NATO is working to ensure that our peacekeeping mission in Kosovo is optimized for the current environment," she said on X. "We have begun to adjust our posture, in close coordination with all relevant authorities and stakeholders."

She added that this process is reversible, and the NATO presence in the province can be expanded again at any time if the bloc deems it necessary.

Hart did not provide any numerical data on the scale and timing of the reductions.

Earlier, NATO said it intends to begin reducing its mission in Kosovo from 2027. Currently, it includes about 4,600 military personnel from 31 countries.
