While officers now only don their iconic red uniforms for special occasions, it was announced on Wednesday that Mounties in Alberta will begin wearing navy-blue shirts as part of a modernization effort. Expect to see frontline RCMP officers wearing their new duds at detachments beginning Saturday.

Officers can also still wear their previous grey uniform shirts, as either colour is acceptable while on duty, RCMP said in a news release.

The RCMP reminded Albertans that if they have concerns about the identity of an officer, they can ask for identification or contact the non-emergency line for further information.
