The mystery surrounding Nancy Guthrie‘s disappearance may not be as complicated as it seems, according to a forensic psychologist who believes that the investigation may be focusing too heavily on the ransom notes.

The investigation is now in its sixth month after Nancy’s February 1 kidnapping. Forensic psychologist Dr. Kris Mohandie, who convinced OJ Simpson to surrender, spoke to Fox News Digital about the perplexing case with a fairly simple assessment of what happened.

“Unfortunately, I think this case is a simple matter of a burglary gone wrong and then attempts to cover things up,” he explained to the media outlet on August 9.

The public saw the image of a man with a backpack entering Nancy’s home on the night of January 31 via her grainy Nest doorbell videos, but the suspect remains unidentified. Much of the emphasis now has been placed on the ransom notes received by the Guthrie family and various news outlets, but Mohandie isn’t convinced they are real.

“I don’t think the ransom note is legit, and I don’t think that letter days later is legitimate — but I think it’s appropriate for law enforcement to investigate it just in case it might be,” he shared. “A good investigation keeps an open mind.”

Mohandie went on to explain that the poor grammar caught his eye, noting that “talks about ‘we’ and then breaks into ‘I’ in terms of pronouns” were something that “raised a lot of questions for me of veracity.”

Today show host Savannah Guthrie and her family are still pressing the public and the alleged kidnappers for answers while sharing her anguish with her Instagram followers.

“This is our beautiful Mom,” the TV journalist wrote on August 1 next to a sweet snapshot of her mom. “Six months ago, someone took her out of her bed in the dead of night. We have lived every moment, every breath, and every heartbeat in agony and despair ever since.”

It’s clear the investigation is taking its toll, and it doesn’t seem like there are any more clues now versus the night it happened.

“We will never stop looking for answers – and we will never stop looking for the light,” Savannah continued. “We will always be hoping and praying and believing in the best of our world – in spite of circumstance. This is what our faith makes possible. Please. Bring her home.”
