Kannada organisations in Belagavi will not support the ‘Karnataka bandh’ called by Vatal Nagaraj and other leaders opposing release of water from Cauvery river to Tamil Nadu, on Thursday.

They would, however, offer moral support to the issue, they said, after a meeting in the city on Wednesday.

A protest seeking faster approval of Mahadayi project would be held separately.

Leaders of many organisations, including the Kittur Karnataka Sene, participated in this meeting. The decision was reached on consensus. Some leaders pointed out that during his visit to Belagavi, Mr. Nagaraj agreed to include the Mahadayi issue among the demands. But it was left out in later meetings.
