The SHIFT Transport Coalition has launched the Transport Analytics Hub (TAH), an open-access platform aimed at supporting evidence-based decision-making and accelerating the transformation of urban mobility systems.

The platform uses geospatial analytics and interactive visualisation tools to help users understand mobility patterns, compare cities using mobility indicators and assess urban road networks through various geospatial metrics.

According to the coalition, TAH enables users to examine the relationship between people, roads, and transport networks across cities. The platform is intended to generate insights into emerging mobility trends, identify strengths and highlight areas where improvements may be required.

WRI India, a member of the coalition, demonstrated the platform during a session in New Delhi on Tuesday attended by senior urban mobility experts. The session focused on how transport data and analytics can be used to develop actionable insights and support efforts to reimagine mobility systems in cities.

Pawan Mulukutla, Executive Director – Integrated Transport, Clean Air and Hydrogen at WRI India, said: “The value of transport data lies in using it to understand how mobility systems function and where improvements are needed.” He said the new platform would help practitioners explore mobility-related questions, compare cities and generate evidence to inform transport decisions.

The launch also coincided with the release of WRI India’s working paper, “Assessing Urban Road Networks Using Geospatial Metrics.” The paper proposes 21 geospatial indicators to assess urban road networks across areas including connectivity, travel efficiency, street hierarchy, and network performance.

Through TAH and its research, the coalition aims to make transport analytics more accessible to practitioners working towards more connected, efficient, inclusive and people-centred urban mobility.
