One domain industry veteran is selling off his 500-domain portfolio in this week’s auction.

GoDaddy’s first-ever “liquidation” auction kicked off today. The idea is to let domain investors exit or downsize their portfolios.

There are about 2,100 names in the auction, which will run through Thursday.

While I’m sure many of the names in the auction are from domain investors just trying to get rid of domains they haven’t been able to sell, that’s not the case with all of them.

About 500 domains are truly being liquidated by a person who has been involved in the industry for decades and is exiting the business for personal health reasons. He acquired many of his domains decades ago.

Most of the domains in the liquidation auction start at $100, although some of the better ones have higher starting price tags.

Some of my favorite domains in the auction are:

  • crag.com
  • tog.org
  • beatmakers.com
  • holr.com
  • easyseo.com
  • modernconstruction.com
  • collegecounseling.com
  • betterseo.com
  • workaccident.com
  • americanqualilty.com
  • immuniq.com
  • vows.org

Personally, I’m interested in seeing the sell-through rate for this auction and whether it works as a way to truly liquidate domains.
