The Collin Graf contract was “pretty close”.

That’s what San Jose Sharks GM Mike Grier said on Wednesday, after Macklin Celebrini’s extension.

And now, Graf has re-signed with the Sharks for three years and $12.75 million ($4.25 million AAV).

“Collin was a big part of our team’s improvement this past season, being an effective penalty killer for us and his versatility in the lineup was extremely valuable,” Grier said in a team press release. “His hard working attitude and work ethic is a big reason why his game took another stride last year, and he continues to be an important person in our young group of players. We’re happy we are able to keep him a Shark for the next several seasons.”

The RFA winger enjoyed a breakout season, scoring 21 goals and 46 points. The 23-year-old also played just over 200 minutes short-handed, which led the San Jose Sharks up front, and was seventh among NHL forwards.

Graf will be 26 and still an RFA when this contract expires in 2029.

The San Jose Sharks signed Graf out of Quinnipiac in Apr. 2024. The two-time Hobey Baker Award top-10 finalist also won the National Championship with the Bobcats in 2023.
