BERLIN, August 13. /TASS/. Europe expanded its assistance to Ukraine in May and June to almost 11 billion euros, according to the Kiel Institute for World Economy, which tracks data on Kiev's support.

The sum is split into 4.3 billion euros that was allocated to military aid and 6.7 billion euros to financial and humanitarian aid. The European Union allocated most of the funds under the new 90 billion euro Ukraine Support Loan designed to finance the Ukrainian budget and military spending in 2026 and 2027.

Besides the funds from the EU institutions, individual European countries have also provided new aid packages. Germany disbursed 700 million euros in military aid, Denmark - 600 million euros, and the Netherlands - 500 million euros.

The United Kingdom with about 1.5 billion euros led by of financial and humanitarian assistance among bilateral donors.

While the volume of military aid in the first half of 2026 almost equals the previous year’s sums, financial and humanitarian support for Ukraine has decreased by 41%.

The report says that while Europe continues to lead in military assistance, weapons from the United States play a key role in this European support. The share of the United States in European military aid, according to IfW, continued to grow both through the purchases from defense companies and through supplies from the US arsenals. Between January and June 2026, European donors purchased weapons worth at least 3 billion euro from US defense companies, or a third of European military aid supplied through the industrial sector.

Supplies from the US stocks have also played a critical role, providing over 90% of the military assistance under the NATO PURL initiative.

"Europe continues to depend on the access to US weapons systems to sustain its military support for Ukraine," says Federico Mellace, Lead Analyst of the Ukraine Support Tracker.

According to him, the United States remains a key supplier of systems such as Patriot, to which Europe currently has almost no alternatives. In the long term, the main question will be whether Europe can develop and produce its own reliable analogues to gradually reduce this dependence.

Russia has repeatedly said that arms supplies to the Kiev regime only prolong the conflict in Ukraine.
