Austin's Alamo Drafthouse Mueller is now the Matthew McConaughey Cinema

Uvalde native Matthew McConaughey is getting a special honor at an Austin Alamo Drafthouse: they’re renaming a theater after the Texas acting icon.
The Mueller location will officially become the Matthew McConaughey Cinema on Monday, Aug. 10.
The dedication ceremony will include the Oscar-winner introducing an early screening of his latest film, “The Rivals of Amziah King.” The film’s director, Andrew Patterson, will also be on hand with lead actress Angelina Lookingglass for a special post-screening Q&A. There will also be a live performance featuring musicians from the cast, including The Last Bison.
McConaughey may be most famous for his screen debut in Dazed and Confused almost 35 years ago. He also starred in Interstellar, Dallas Buyers Club, and The Wolf of Wall Street.
McConaughey attended the University of Texas and still occasionally attends games.
The Austin event is private, but North Texans can take part with a one-night-only cocktail party screening at the Alamo Drafthouse’s Denton location on Aug. 16.
There are also events in New York City, Los Angeles, Mountain View, CA, Denver, Boston, the Twin Cities, and Omaha.
Tickets are already on sale.
Alamo has theaters honoring Bong Joon Ho (South Lamar, also Austin), Christopher Nolan (San Francisco’s New Mission), Pam Grier (Littleton, CO), Spike Lee (Brooklyn), John Huhges (Chicago), and Ivan Reitman (Lower Manhattan).
