Georgia running back Dante Dowdell was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries after he was involved in an ATV accident.

Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart revealed Tuesday that Dowdell will be sidelined indefinitely with his injuries. 'We are praying for him,' Smart said.

At first, the Georgia coach did not offer specifics but ESPN later revealed that Dowdell is receiving treatment at Shepherd Center in Atlanta, a medical facility specializing in treatment and rehabilitation for spinal cord and brain injuries.

'The Dante Dowdell situation is tough,' Smart told reporters. 'I don't know when he'll be back. He had an off-campus accident back home during our break. 

'We're praying for him and his family. We expect a full recovery, but the outlook right now is we're waiting to see.'

Smart told ESPN: 'We don't know when his return will be. I don't know the specifics of it, to be honest with you. It was a recreational vehicle, and he had some serious injuries.'

The Georgia coach confirmed that Dowdell is 'out of the really tough range.' But, he added: 'As far as his complete health and coming all the way back, I don't know what that looks like in terms of this year.' 

Dowdell transferred to Georgia after rushing for 560 yards and three scores last season for Kentucky. 

The senior tailback from Picayune, Mississippi, was slated to compete for carries behind starter Nate Frazier. Dowdell spent the 2024 season with Nebraska and the 2023 season at Oregon.

'He's just a tremendous kid [with a] great family,' Smart told ESPN. 'We're very supportive of them. Our players have been up there to see him. It's a really tough deal.'
