Towards a European system of natural disaster risk management for the EU insurance sector

Дата публикации: 06-08-2026 09:26:58

Recent natural disasters have demonstrated the need to develop a policy of prevention, preparedness, response, mitigation and recovery vis à vis natural disasters. In this context, the capacity of private markets (insurance, reinsurance and alternative risk transfer tools) is limited. The protection gap is now growing and the provision of insurance cover is suffering from economic inefficiencies relating to this gap and to lack of scope, as markets are not covered by private schemes and public-private partnerships to the same extent. This public hearing gathers regulators and organisations to discuss on existing evidence, the need for a EU-layer, and how it should look like. The results of the discussion will feed the ongoing EESC opinion ‘Towards a European system of natural disaster risk management for the EU insurance sector’ that the EESC is working on.The event will be webstreamed and open to all interested stakeholders. No registration is needed and participation is free of charge.Follow the event on X:   #finance #resilience I @EESC_ECOAsk your questions to the panelists via Slido with the event code: #RiskManagement
