Spider-Man is the most popular superhero in the world, Marvel or not, and with his long history in the comics, live-action, animation, and more, there have been some incredible and iconic quotes, but this movie line has yet to be matched. Tom Holland's Spider-Man franchise is on its way to becoming the biggest ever for the character. Sure, in box office numbers alone, it already is.

That said, Spider-Man's live-action movies show that this is one of the Marvel heroes with the best franchises thus far. While one might have a problem with Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man 3 or Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, overall, both live-action Spider-Man movie franchises that existed before the MCU movie timeline introduced Holland's Peter Parker did more good than bad.

In animation, there is also the innovative Spider-Verse movies, which might focus on Miles Morales, but also include several Spider-Men and Spider-Women from all over the multiverse. Putting together those 24 years of Spider-Man movies, there have been many quotes that were either emotional, inspirational, heartbreaking, hilarious, or perhaps all of those folded into one. However, there is a quote that is the undisputed greatest in Spider-Man movies.

While there have been many fantastic quotes in Spider-Man's long movie history, there is one that nearly every fan's mind will instantly rush to when thinking of that character. Of course, that line comes from Robertson's Uncle Ben in Maguire's first Spider-Man movie. In the 2002 release, Uncle Ben turned to Peter and instilled in him the motto that Spider-Man would learn to live by, saying, "Just because you can beat him up doesn't give you the right to. Remember, with great power comes great responsibility." This is easily the most iconic quote in all Spider-Man media, perfectly encapsulating what he stands for.

Initially, this legendary quote was not attributed to Uncle Ben in the comics. The first use of the line came in a narrative caption from Stan Lee at the end of Amazing Fantasy #15, the issue that marked Spider-Man's debut and told the story of how he got his powers and Uncle Ben died. Many years later, it would be given to Peter Parker's father figure, which the 2002 Spider-Man movie has now made so iconic that most don't even remember or realize that it was not Uncle Ben's at first. Spider-Man is meant to protect people, and he can never forget that.

Marvel & Sony's Spider-Man Franchise Keeps Trying To Reinvent The Iconic Quote

This section contains SPOILERS for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.In the years since director Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man movie was released, other movies starring the Marvel hero have tried to come up with variations of Uncle Ben's iconic quote. More recently, the MCU Spider-Man movies handed it to Tomei's Aunt May, given that Uncle Ben plays no real role in the shared universe, which made sense and became quite impactful as she first uttered the new version of the line right before she died from injuries caused by Dafoe's Green Goblin, aka the villain of Maguire's first Spider-Man movie. In No Way Home, she says, "With great power, there must also come great responsibility."

Then, in a Spider-Man: Brand New Day flashback that holds a lot of meaning for Peter, as the moment in question came right after Aunt May found out he was Spider-Man in 2017's Homecoming, and was instrumental in getting Sadie Sink's Jean Grey to give up on her mission for revenge and embrace being a hero, Tomei's Aunt May once again came up with a version of the iconic Spider-Man movie quote.

She says, "That's your deepest responsibility. Never forget that, no matter how powerful you become." This just goes to show how iconic Uncle Ben's quote was, as Spider-Man movies keep trying to recreate it, though the original still stands in a league of its own.
