A female Antifa rioter was exposed as a liar after claiming she had only grabbed on to another protester being arrested for support.

Catherine Esperanza, 30, was told her claims about grabbing onto the protester outside a Portland ICE facility in May were nonsense, The Oregonian reported.

Esperanza claimed to have suffered a broken leg and that she was trying to steady herself and that issues with her hearing meant she missed orders to back off. 

But jurors agreed that the post-doctorate fellow in psychology was actually at the front of a 12-strong human chain who were attempting to yank the man being arrested away from cops.

Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Alexander Garcia also revealed how a cop took Esperanza's hands off the arrested man, only for her to grab him again. 

He said: 'You can’t hear, but you surely can feel that someone is removing your hands.'

Esperanza was clad in a black KN95 mask for Tuesday's hearing in Portland, as she was sentenced for misdemeanor interfering with a police officer.

Judge Celia Howes sentenced Esperanza to 18 months probation and 40 hours community service. 

Judge Howes declined the prosecutors' request to jail Esperanza for 10 days, saying the two days she'd spent behind bars after her arrest was sufficient.  

She is banned from the ICE depot in South Portland where she rioted, despite living just a few blocks away from the facility.

Esperanza went to the riot in May wearing an industrial-duty respirator, goggles, earplugs and a placard that said: 'REVOKE THE ICE PERMIT!' 

Esperanza has no prior criminal history. 

The psychologist had supporters show up in court, who were demanding her charges be dropped. 

Esperanza is one of 46 people who were charged after attending a protest in Portland this year. 

Portland has long been rocked by Antifa riots, which first flared after the murder of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police in May 2020. 

Portland, like many other big cities in the US, has since become a focal point for anti-ICE protests, especially after the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. 

In a shocking turn, ICE announced its agents would be equipped with gloves that deliver powerful electric shocks. 

The gloves are designed to cause pain and impair a person's ability to respond within seconds.

The devices, known as the GLOVE (Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter), are normal patrol gloves until an officer presses a button to activate them.

They must be in direct contact with someone's skin to administer a voltage that causes pain, which is intended to incapacitate those who are shocked.

The rollout of the gloves, which could cost up to $20million (£14.8million), follows intense criticism against ICE for aggressive tactics used to apprehend people.

The gloves can deliver up to 380v of electricity, roughly three times the charge of a standard US power outlet.

Democratic elected officials and civil rights advocates have called the plans unnecessary and cruel.
