After being slammed for its opening-day scorebug, Netflix adjusted its virtual on-screen scoreboard for Thursday’s ‘Field of Dreams’ game between Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins from Iowa, only to discover a new way to irritate fans.

‘Every crisis is an opportunity to make things worse,’ one fan remarked on X, where critics took aim at the newly revamped scorebug.

This time around fans complained that the graphic was far too big – or ‘about 6% of the screen,’ according to one precise viewer.

With new digital real estate at its disposal, Netflix took the opportunity to add its logo to the graphic. And not a small ‘Netflix,’ but one that was ‘bigger than the players’ names,’ as one irritated fan put it.

‘It’s important while you’re subscribed to Netflix and watching on Netflix that you’re reminded that the game is provided by Netflix with the giant Netflix logo in the scoreboard,’ one sarcastic fan complained on X. ‘Entirely necessary.’

And although Thursday’s scorebug was a departure from the one fans described as ‘ugly’ back on Opening Day, it still garnered a similar response from viewers.

‘Genuinely hideous scorebug,’ one wrote. ‘Looks like they got it from a graphics package from like 2007.’

With Matt Vasgersian handling play-by-play duties as well as Hall-of-Fame pitcher CC Sabathia and retired outfielder Hunter Pence doing color commentary, Thursday marked the third installment of MLB’s Field of Dreams series. Previously the Chicago White Sox beat the New York Yankees in 2021, while the Chicago Cubs topped the Cincinnati Reds the following year.

On Thursday, the Phillies breezed by the Twins, 7-1, thanks to a pair of home runs from Kyle Schwarber.

It also marked the second time Netflix broadcast an MLB game, following the March 25 opener between the Yankees and Giants - a game remembered, in part, for criticism about the scorebug. 

'This score bug is AWFUL,' read a post from the popular X account, @SleeperMLB.

'I didn't think a scorebug could get worse than the Bally Sports one,' another added, referring to what is now known as FanDuel Sports Network. 'Netflix may have just proven me wrong.'

It's a criticism Netflix and other streaming platforms have faced as they've dipped their toes into live sports. But in this case, baseball fans were remarkably specific.

'… I like the aesthetic and concept, but the text is shockingly small,' one fan noted during the Yankees' 7-0 win. 'The pitcher and batter text is the smallest I have ever seen on any sports scorebug/lower third.'

In addition to the two MLB games this season, Netflix also live streamed last month's Home Run Derby, which drew 5.3 million viewers, according to Sports Business Journal.
