In recent years, Amelia Dimoldenberg has arguably become the face of fun celebrity interviews, with the 32-year-old Brit’s YouTube series Chicken Shop Date — which she first started back in 2014 — catapulting her to global stardom.
From there, she has been invited to a whole bunch of red carpets to interview A-list names, including the prestigious Academy Awards.
Who can forget, for example, that time her interview with Andrew Garfield at the GQ Men of the Year Awards went super viral thanks to their natural chemistry? Or their second flirty encounter at the Golden Globes before Andrew finally fulfilled his destiny and appeared on Chicken Shop Date in 2024?
And Andrew is just the tip of the iceberg, with Amelia interviewing pretty much every big name you can think of in recent years — and she did not hold back when she was asked who she wouldn’t want to run into on a red carpet again. As in, she really did name names.
During an appearance on British radio station Capital FM, Amelia was asked: “Who is the one Chicken Shop Date-r that you thought: ‘Y’know what, this has taken me by surprise, I actually really fancy you’?” to which she immediately replied: “Oooh, maybe Jack Harlow.”
“At the time, I feel like he wasn’t really known as the heartthrob that kind of is now,” she went on. “And so meeting him, and going on a date with him, he is very charismatic.”
Then, the hosts ramped it up a gear, asking: “Out of all your red carpet interviews, who would you least like to see on the carpet again?”
“Like… What, so I have to say the name?!” Amelia exclaimed in response. “OK… But this is only because…” she then sighed and repeatedly stumbled over her words as she clearly hesitated over what to say.
“He gets too excited and talks a lot, and on a red carpet, you have to keep it moving,” she continued. “You can see people out of the corner of your eye who you really—" seemingly realizing how she sounded, she joked: “Who you really want to interview!”
“No, there are other people coming, and it’s difficult if you have a talker,” Amelia explained. “So… Jeff Goldblum. He talks quite a lot. He talks a lot.”
At this point, the interview cut to a clip of Amelia chatting to Jeff on the Oscars red carpet, where she asked how he was feeling, only for the Wicked star to burst into song — seemingly proving her point.
Amelia then insisted: “We do love him, but he talks a lot!”
Needless to say, people were seriously impressed with Amelia’s honesty — and the diplomatic way that she answered the question. Discussing the interview clip on a Reddit forum, one person wrote: “So fair RE Jeff Goldblum, I’d kill to just have a drink with him and listen to him chat though. He seems like he has real joix de vivre.”
“Was once standing very near Jeff Goldblum and wanted to say hi (JP fan like you wouldn't believe) but he was talking this stranger's ear off so I gave up and wandered off. This totally tracks,” somebody else shared. Another wrote: “I like the JG isn't called out for something bad, it's just that he's excited to talk to people.”
One more joked: “jeff goldblum - talks too much This is the least surprising thing ever said about a celebrity.” While one more recalled: “The most Jeff Goldblum story ever is when a woman was reading a book on a plane and he asked if he could read the rest of it aloud to her.”
For reference, this is mentioned in a GQ profile of Jeff, which reads: “Once, the story goes, he stopped a woman reading on a flight and asked if he could read the rest of her book aloud to her, seeing as she only had 90 or so pages left to get through and, well, why not?” It’s not known whether the woman accepted his offer or not.
