CommonSpirit - Memorial Hospital honored Kyle Harper, RN, with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

Mr. Harper received two nominations, one from a fellow team member and one from a patient’s family. Both nominations recognize his compassion and personalized care.

“Kyle advocated for his patient by intervening when a patient was slated for transfer to a distant facility for specialized care. When learning the patient's elderly mother was distressed by the distance, Kyle escalated the issue, working tirelessly to secure a bed at a closer facility.

His compassionate efforts ensured the patient received necessary specialized care while remaining near family.”

A patient’s family said, “Kyle stepped in to give [my father] care during a difficult time. He was compassionate, showed a caring spirit, and provided my sister and me with appropriate humor to help ease our tension. He went above and beyond and was so kind. Kyle’s attention to detail was amazing. He was thorough and I believe his attention to detail was what helped my father the most. He was able to get appropriate treatment quickly. He showed that he was very knowledgeable and provided my sister and me with updates on what was happening and provided excellent care to my father. He is the perfect example of what I envision someone in nursing should be when it's a calling, rather than just a job.”

Mr. Harper works in the emergency room at CommonSpirit - Memorial Hospital - Hixson and has worked at CommonSpirit since 2021.

Nurses are chosen each month to receive this wonderful award that honors compassionate care. Honorees receive a bouquet of daisies, a certificate, a copy of her/his nomination letter, and a beautiful and meaningful sculpture called A Healer’s Touch - hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa. The honoree's nursing unit also receives a cinnamon doughnut party, because it takes a team for a nurse to achieve his/her best. Tasty Doughnuts generously donates the treats for this worthy cause.
