The Salvation Army of Chattanooga has officially launched its Mission Essential Campaign, a regional fundraising effort aimed at raising $300,000 to sustain and expand critical services for individuals and families in need across the Chattanooga Area Command, including Chattanooga and Cleveland.

Of the total goal, $225,000 will support programs in Chattanooga, while $75,000 has been designated for services in Cleveland and throughout Bradley County.

Funds raised through the campaign will directly support essential programs such as case management, food assistance, clothing support, homeless outreach, transportation assistance, and day shelter services in Chattanooga, as well as food programs, outreach efforts, and cold-weather shelter services in Cleveland.

In Chattanooga, the campaign will fund:

• $60,000 for case management, helping individuals and families navigate pathways out of crisis
• $55,000 for homeless outreach, including operating a mobile outreach unit that delivers food, water, and care directly to encampments
• $45,000 for food pantry and meal programs to address food insecurity
• $40,000 for day shelter services at Recreate Café, providing a safe space, showers, laundry, and basic necessities
• $15,000 for clothing assistance
• $10,000 for transportation support, helping individuals access jobs, healthcare, and housing opportunities

In Cleveland, the $75,000 goal will fund:

• $35,000 for cold-weather shelter operations, ensuring a safe place during dangerous winter conditions
• $20,000 for food assistance, including meals and pantry support
• $15,000 for homeless outreach, providing essential supplies and connection to resources
• $5,000 for emergency assistance and program support

“These are truly mission essential services,” said Captain Johnny Horton, area commander for The Salvation Army of Chattanooga. “Every day, we are meeting people at critical moments, whether they need a meal, a safe place during extreme weather, or guidance toward stability. This campaign ensures we can continue serving our neighbors with compassion and consistency across both Chattanooga and Cleveland.”

In Cleveland, The Salvation Army continues to see growing need, particularly in food insecurity and outreach services.

“Here in Bradley County, we see firsthand how important it is to be present and responsive,” said Sergeant Ruth Forgey, corps administrator in Cleveland. “Whether it’s serving meals, reaching out to those experiencing homelessness, or opening our doors during extreme cold, this support allows us to meet real needs in real time.”
