Yesterday marked 25 years since the release of one of the greatest movies of our generation. Two and a half decades since Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) went undercover with the Toretto family to scour the world of illegal street racing in search of those responsible for truck heists. Of course, who could resist the idea that family conquers all and the charm of the patriarch, Dominic (Vin Diesel), and his sister, Mia (Jordana Brewster). However you may feel about the ten movies that followed (that is right…TEN), the original The Fast and the Furious redefined an entire automotive culture for a new century. I mean, truly, how did Tej (Ludacris) go from garage owning gear head in Miami to super hacker with no explanation? Anyway, if you are like me, you loved the ridiculous cars that have shown up through the years, and that means you will be excited to know that the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles expanded their “Fast & Furious Legacy” exhibit to include all of your favorite super machines.

25 years and seven billion dollars at the box office brought us a ton of great rides. Even if the movies tanked harder than any other franchise after the first movie, the cars never did. They always brought the coolest of the cool, and that alone is usually enough to justify the price of admission. The 1970 Dodge Charger owned and driven by Torreto and his father is one of the must-haves and must-sees for the exhibit. But also the supercars seen in the beginning races of the first two movies, the Nissan GT-R driven by Brian in his last outing, and my personal throwback favorite, the Ford F-150 SVT Lightning Brian drove for the shop in the first movie, make an appearance. If you are someone living in the crossroads of the automotive world and the land of Hollywood in Los Angeles, this is the exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum you have to see between now and the end of its run on April 4, 2027.

Now, for the sake of pulling on your nostalgic strings…my favorite quotes

“I live my life a quarter-mile at a time. Nothing else matters…” – Dominic Toretto

“It don’t matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning’s winning.” – Dominic Toretto

“Plan B? Plan B, we need a plan C, D, E! We need more alphabets!” – Tej Parker

“He knows I can box.” – Brian O’Conner

For the Purists: Porsche’s Manual 911 Carrera S Returns to America

Machine, Wheel, Tire

You start the flat-six, and it roars to life. You grab the shift lever and engage first gear, feeling the mechanical action of cables and clutch plates. Feather the gas and ease out the clutch, let the revs climb until the signature Le Mans howl sings from the rear-mounted engine: Ahh, the joys of a manual transmission Porsche 911.

But lately, the opportunities for that feeling have disappeared, as Porsche increasingly uses its PDK automated dual-clutch transmission. While capable of banging off F1-style shifts, the setup left some traditionalists wanting. But there’s good news: due to customer demand, the Porsche 2027 911 Carrera S MT package returns a six-speed manual to North American drivers.

Like supercars? Gordon Murray is teasing a new one on the way for Monterey Car Week

Machine, Wheel, Alloy Wheel

Monterey Car Week got underway this weekend, and there is a bevy of incredible events happening to make any car enthusiast salivate for ten days straight. Starting last Friday, visitors spent the weekend exploring the history of races, checking out a slew of historic race cars, and yesterday was the historic hillclimb many come to see pre-reunion. Today, racers get a chance to collect Poker cards and eat great meals on the route during the Poker Rally and also check out the British side of Monterey Car Week. However, we are looking forward today after Gordon Murray dropped a teaser of what we will get to see at The Quail later this week.

It is always a pleasure to return to California, and I am looking forward to sharing our latest Special Vehicles creation with everyone attending The Quail and enthusiasts around the world. We have been working on something very special – I can’t wait for the covers to come off. – Professor Gordon Murray CBE, Group Executive Chairman

Porsche just proved the Cayenne Electric is the most impressive performance vehicle you can drive

Car, Transportation, Vehicle

I have seen the movies. I know there is no way that a car can survive in the jet blast of a plane. I remember the scene from Casino Royale. And for me, that is science. But the engineers at Porsche and Stratolaunch aren’t so sure. They operate in the real world of science, and they came together to see if the Porsche Cayenne Electric could withstand the take-off power of one of the largest and most powerful aircraft in the world. Why? Because they can and because curiosity oftentimes leads to something awesome. Spoiler alert…the car holds up. But don’t take my word for it.

The car is its own beast. It’s got the ability to keep up and play in this space. – Orlando Bloom, Porsche ambassador
