While Microsoft continues working on Azure Linux 4.0 as its overhauled Linux distribution built atop Fedora, Azure Linux 3.0 remains the current stable production series. Released overnight was Azure Linux 3.0.20260809 and it comes with more than 233 security patches for recent CVEs in the AI era.

Azure Linux 3.0.20260809 continues using the Linux 6.6 LTS kernel by default while it now brings some alterations like enabling FSCRYPT and various other updates from the upstream Linux 6.6 branch. There are also a number of fixes to Azure Linux 3.0 pushed by Microsoft while the vast majority of the changes in this monthly update are for shipping security fixes.

Among the many packages seeing security fixes in the new Azure Linux 3.0 refresh include BusyBox, Curl, Docker, Kubernetes, Perl, Python, Prometheus, Rust, PHP, Valkey, XWayland, and dozens of other open-source packages.
