A man accused of pointing a gun at an Amazon delivery driver after he accused him of stealing his package is out of jail after he posted bond Friday.

George Mandes told NBC6 as he walked out of jail that at some point he may want to share his side of the story.

Police said an Amazon delivery driver dropped off a package at Mandes' home Thursday afternoon, but picked it up after he realized he delivered it to the wrong apartment. Investigators said the delivery driver found the correct unit, then went back to his van.

Residents at Manor Grove Apartments were told to shelter in place after police say a report of an armed robbery escalated into a barricade situation. One person was arrested.

But Mandes, who is seen on a doorbell video camera appearing to hold a gun, walked outside and accused the driver of stealing his package, police said. Mandes then pointed a gun at the driver, an arrest report said.

Mandes barricaded himself inside his home but eventually came out, police said.

Lex Evans, an Amazon spokesperson, sent NBC6 a statement: “Safety is our top priority for the drivers who deliver Amazon packages, communities, and customers. We’re relieved everyone is safe after this incident, and are cooperating with law enforcement as they continue investigating.”

People who live in the neighborhood describes the afternoon as scary.

Paul Baker, Mandes' neighbor, said he learned the correct story after police arrested Mandes.

“My neighbor wouldn't have known that looking at the video, they get things at their door all the time,” Baker said. “He's a very righteous person, a person who feels they need to stand up for themselves because nobody else will do it for them.”

Mandes is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
