AMD has signed an agreement with Core Scientific for access to more than 500 megawatts of AI-ready data centre capacity in the US beginning in 2027.
The arrangement can be expanded to as much as 2.5 gigawatts. AMD customers will be able to use the capacity to deploy AI systems based on the company’s hardware and software.
AMD said the infrastructure is intended for customers including AI model developers, cloud providers, and enterprises deploying systems based on its computing platform.
Capacity secured across five US sitesRegulatory filings provide more detail on how the initial capacity will be allocated. The agreements cover 529 MW of critical IT capacity across five Core Scientific facilities in Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Georgia.
AMD has directly entered leases for 377 MW at facilities in Pecos and Hunt County, Texas, and Muskogee, Oklahoma. An unnamed neocloud has leased another 152 MW at Core Scientific sites in Auburn, Alabama, and Dalton, Georgia.
The leases have initial terms of 15 years and include options for three five-year extensions. AMD can also reserve another 1,925 MW of capacity through December 28, 2028, taking the potential total to approximately 2.5 GW.
Core Scientific will develop and operate the sites, while the companies will collaborate on physical infrastructure design and system deployment. The agreement does not transfer ownership of the facilities to AMD.
The partnership specifically covers the deployment of AMD Instinct graphics processing units, EPYC server processors, and ROCm software. The companies have not disclosed the processor models, rack configurations, networking systems, power architecture, or cooling technology planned for the five locations.
Core Scientific said the facilities will support high-density AI deployments. The 529 MW figure refers to critical IT capacity available to computing equipment, rather than the total power consumption of the facilities.
Core Scientific’s regulatory filing also gives AMD protections over equipment deployed at the sites leased by the unnamed neocloud. The provisions apply in specified circumstances, including a default by the lessee.
As part of the agreement, AMD will receive warrants to purchase Core Scientific common stock. Core Scientific issued AMD a warrant covering up to 30 million shares at an exercise price of $23.47 per share.
Approximately 6.5 million shares vested when the initial agreements were signed. Further vesting is linked to additional capacity included under the arrangement.
Core Scientific estimates that the initial 15-year agreements represent more than $14 billion in potential base contracted revenue. The estimate excludes capacity that AMD has not yet reserved under the expansion provision.
The companies did not disclose the wider financial terms of the agreement or provide a site-by-site schedule for delivering the capacity. The first phase is expected to become available from 2027.
AMD broadens its infrastructure roleThe agreement gives AMD a role in processor and software deployment, physical infrastructure design, and the reservation of data centre capacity for its customers. The company has also introduced a rack-scale system that combines computing, networking, power distribution, and cooling components.
Its Helios reference architecture combines Instinct GPUs, EPYC CPUs, Pensando networking, ROCm software, liquid cooling, and rack-level power distribution. AMD and Core Scientific have not confirmed whether Helios will be installed at the sites covered by the agreement.
The architecture brings AMD’s accelerators, server processors, networking technology, and software into a common rack design. Its published specifications also cover the supporting power and thermal-management systems.
The Core Scientific agreement does not identify the final configurations planned for the five sites. It states that the companies will work together on the physical infrastructure needed to deploy AMD systems.
Core Scientific operates 11 facilities across Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Texas. The company is expanding its high-density colocation business while continuing to operate cryptocurrency-mining activities.
It is repurposing some of its remaining cryptocurrency-mining facilities for high-density colocation where commercial and site conditions allow. The conversions use existing sites and power access, but the facilities still require infrastructure suited to high-density computing workloads.
High-density colocation generated $136.7 million of Core Scientific’s $164.2 million in revenue during the second quarter of 2026. Self-mining contributed $21.5 million, while hosted mining generated $6 million.
Colocation was therefore Core Scientific’s largest revenue source during the quarter, although cryptocurrency mining continued to contribute to the business.
Following the AMD agreements, Core Scientific reported approximately 1.1 GW of leased customer power capacity. Of that amount, 437 MW was billable as of mid-July.
Core Scientific’s high-density infrastructure will support AMD’s product roadmap, chief executive Adam Sullivan said. The partnership can be expanded through the additional capacity rights included in the agreement.
“Core Scientific’s extensive portfolio of AI-ready data centres expands access to the infrastructure our customers need to deploy AMD AI solutions at scale,” Mathew Hein, AMD’s senior vice-president and chief strategy officer of corporate development, said.
