Security agencies have intensified security measures across Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday ahead of Independence Day, with increased vehicle checks, frisking and searches being carried out at many locations across the Union Territory.

Officials said surveillance has been stepped up along the Line of Control (LoC), while additional security personnel have been deployed at vulnerable and sensitive locations.

A multi-layered security grid has been put in place across the Valley, particularly around key installations and venues where Independence Day functions are scheduled to be held. Security forces have also increased area-domination patrols and checking operations to prevent any attempt to disrupt the celebrations.

In south Kashmir, where two recent militant attacks killed a policeman and two migrant workers, security forces have intensified cordon-and-search operations in vulnerable areas, officials said.

Security has also been strengthened along the LoC and International Border (IB) to monitor possible infiltration attempts and suspicious movement. Additional personnel have been deployed at sensitive stretches, while surveillance measures have been enhanced in areas considered vulnerable to cross-border infiltration.

Drones have been pressed into service for aerial surveillance, enabling security forces to monitor difficult-to-access areas and keep watch over movement along sensitive stretches.

Officials said security arrangements were being continuously reviewed and adjusted based on the ground situation.

The heightened security comes ahead of Independence Day celebrations on August 15, with authorities taking additional measures to secure public gatherings and important installations across the Union Territory.

Security personnel have also been directed to maintain close coordination between different agencies and remain vigilant during the days leading up to the celebrations, officials said.
