Дата публикации: 14-08-2026 17:19:04

The founder of a Chicago community violence prevention organization was arrested and charged with grooming and sexually assaulting two girls over a seven-year period, authorities said.
Charles McKenzie, 37, was charged with criminal sexual assault of a family member under 18 years old and grooming, Chicago police said.
McKenzie operates Englewood First Responders, a nonprofit identified as a partner agency with the city of Chicago in its violence prevention efforts, according to the city’s website. A review by NBC Chicago found the organization received state contracts.
McKenzie is also employed by Chicago Public Schools as a counseling assistant.
Prosecutors allege McKenzie began grooming the first alleged victim when she was around 13 years old. According to court documents, he repeatedly made sexually explicit gestures and inappropriately touched the alleged victim on multiple occasions.
McKenzie also allegedly exposed himself and made sexually explicit gestures during a FaceTime call.
A second alleged victim told authorities she was sexually assaulted by McKenzie in March when she was 14 years old. Court documents alleged McKenzie entered the alleged victim’s room, removed her clothes and sexually assaulted her.
The alleged victim later asked a sibling for help and described the assault to family members.
Roughly two weeks after the alleged assault, the teen told the first alleged victim they did not feel safe at home. The first alleged victim then called 911.
NBC Chicago isn’t disclosing the relationship between McKenzie and the alleged victims to protect their identities.
Both alleged victims participated in forensic interviews at the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center. A sibling also provided a recorded statement supporting parts of the allegations.
McKenzie was taken into custody on Aug. 5. He generally denied the allegations but identified himself and the first alleged victim in a Facebook call.
He said he was naked in an image but stated the photo had been faked. He then said it was an old photo from a call with his wife.
When contacted by NBC Chicago about McKenzie, CPS issued the following statement:
“Chicago Public Schools (CPS), prioritizes and takes seriously its responsibility to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all students. All schools across the District are committed to building a physically and emotionally safe teaching and learning environment for students, staff, and families.”
